Different Saree Draping Styles

The saree is most definitely one of the most sensuous Indian attires. We all mostly know the formal way of wearing a saree, but did you know that you could add a few extra twists to it, to make the saree a completely new fashion statement. We have for you, some of our favorite draping styles, destined to make a bang at any occasion. So the next time you are about to buy saree online, do think about how you’re going to drape your saree!

The Nivi Style

The ‘Nivi’ is the classic draping style that we have been seeing since forever. The usual draping, with pleats, pallu over the left shoulder, is called the Nivi. All you need is to buy fashionable cotton sarees online (or any other fabric really), a good fitting blouse and complementing accessories, and you’re ready to go!

The Bengali Style

When you look at a typically draped Bengali saree, it might look a tad difficult to pull off, but it is actually pretty easy. In this typical style, the saree pallu is wrapped around the body twice, over one shoulder and back over the other. The traditional Bengali pallu sports two wide pleats at the front, and cotton, brocade and handloom sarees work best with this look.

The Gujarati Style

This draping style has become quite popular thanks to the numerous soaps on TV these days. Mostly, the Gujarati style of draping a saree is similar to the Nivi style, except for the pallu, which is arranged differently. Instead of going over the left shoulder, the pallu is brought to the front over the right shoulder, tucked partially or left hanging at the back. For this look, you would be best served by a stylish saree that has a heavy pallu.

The Mumtaz Style

The legendary actor of the 80’s, Mumtaz inspired this style of draping. To get this retro look, all you need to do is wrap your saree multiple times around the lower part of your body tightly, the most flattering way to flaunt your figure.

So why wait? Get shopping, get creative, and find your perfect draping style.
